With the temps still in the 80s in Florida, my family packed up our bags and headed to Northern Georgia for the weekend to experience fall foliage and the charming area of Blue Ridge, GA!
Fall is a great time to visit the mountains as the trees are alive with striking colors of the season and the air feels crisp. This Florida gal was so excited to pack cozy sweaters and booties!

WHY VISIT
If you are planning a mountain getaway that is easy to get to from Northern Florida or surrounding states, I highly recommend this quaint town! The shops downtown were great, the scenery is beautiful, and there is a bunch of activities to celebrate fall the right way.
We went the last week of October/first week of November and the foliage was amazing! There was one tree in the downtown area that was so bright, it looked fake. It was so much fun getting to play in the leaves with my nephews. It kind of felt like we were on a movie set for a cheesy Hallmark movie.

WHERE TO STAY
My dad did an awesome job of planning this mountain weekend for 13 of my family members. We stayed in this BEAUTIFUL cabin nestled on Lake Blue Ridge. Kristy Petrillo, HGTV star and renovator pro, is actually the owner of this cabin. She did a fantastic job of decorating the space. The decor was right up my alley. Check out my “Blue Ridge” Instagram highlight for videos of this gorgeous place! Asher and I stayed in the precious “Boho Room” filled with colorful accents and a neat wooden bed.

There are plenty of cabins to rent in Blue Ridge and the surrounding cities. In my opinion, renting a home is the best way to experience the mountains. It’s a great way to bond and relax with family.

WHERE TO EAT
While the restaurants are limited, there were some great spots to eat. My favorite was Southern Charm where I indulged in all the best Deep South dishes. I’m talking biscuits and apple butter, fried mozzarella bites, and a chicken pot pie. YUM!
Other places that we ate at were Harvest on Main, Chester, and Mercier Orchards for breakfast. Since we stayed in the cabin, we stopped to pick up food and make some meals at home. I highly recommend picking up some hard cider from Mercier Orchards – I LOVED the Rosé! Also, we aren’t always glamorous. We indeed had Domino’s pizza delivered one night!

WHAT TO DO
We jam packed our weekend because there is so much the area offers in terms of activities. In the mornings and at night, we would hang out at the cabin in the game room with the fire on. It was so much fun playing with the rentals arcade games, pool table, air hockey table, etc. During the day, we planned some fun activities around town.
My favorite activity was riding the the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway. If you go to Blue Ridge, this is a MUST do! The train starts in downtown Blue Ridge and takes a 26-mile roundtrip journey along the Toccoa River through the Chattahoochee National Forest. The train stops in the sister towns of McCaysville, Georgia and Copperhill, Tennessee for a two-hour layover. We were able to shop, eat lunch, and stand in two states at once! It was a great way to see the fall foliage and explore a new spot.

Another fun activity that we all enjoyed was visiting Mercier Orchards to go apple picking. We don’t get to do this at home in Florida so it was fun to ride the tractor and pick our own apples. Ready for a laugh? I actually lost my phone while apple picking and had to pull up Find My Friends to track down my phone. It was sitting in the middle of a row along with all the fallen apples…whoops! Lol, I definitely deserved some hard cider after that adventure. Mercier Orchards also has a tasting room with numerous hard ciders. It’s a fun place to stop.

Another activity we did was go on electric bikes through the mountains with Pedego Blue Ridge. The scenery was great but to be honest, it was a little tough for me and I ended up tapping out halfway through. We did do a hike on the tour to a waterfall which was pretty neat. If you’re looking for an adventurous activity, I highly recommend it!

Other activities included shopping around town in the cutest boutiques, exploring the national forest, going to an escape room, and taking pictures. I wanted to soak up as much fall foliage as I could so a camera was in my hands at all times. It was so beautiful!

Great post with specific recommendations. I don’t think the leaves will still be as beautiful or even still there by the time I go, but I’m still excited to explore the area!

I love this idea of a “Fall getaway,” especially living in Florida where we don’t really experience the seasons. This little town looks gorgeous!
